Two resources I can recommend if you want to learn more about (eBPF-based) profiling: the intro-level What is eBPF? | An Introduction and Practical Tips by Nate Matherson, which provides a nice overview into the topic. If you're up for a deep dive and don't mind Linux kernel internals, you definitely want to read Fantastic Symbols and Where to Find Them - Part 1 by Kemal Akkoyun.

Adaptive Sampling in Jaeger by the well-known Jaeger inventor Yuri Shkuro (with Joe Elliott) is a fantastic deep dive on this non-trivial topic.
