eBPF profiling background¶
Two resources I can recommend if you want to learn more about (eBPF-based) profiling: the intro-level What is eBPF? | An Introduction and Practical Tips by Nate Matherson, which provides a nice overview into the topic. If you're up for a deep dive and don't mind Linux kernel internals, you definitely want to read Fantastic Symbols and Where to Find Them - Part 1 by Kemal Akkoyun.
Adaptive sampling in Jaeger¶
Adaptive Sampling in Jaeger by the well-known Jaeger inventor Yuri Shkuro (with Joe Elliott) is a fantastic deep dive on this non-trivial topic.
SNMP and Grafana¶
In A beginner's guide to network monitoring with Grafana and Prometheus Kim Miroy shares the basics of SNMP monitoring with the Grafana and Prometheus combo.
Lots of o11y love¶
The fabulous Michael Friedrich of GitLab launched o11y.love, a community-driven resource collection on the topic. Check it out!
The one and only Liz Fong-Jones on Ask Miss O11y: Long-Running Requests. A must-read!
Otel case study¶
My colleagues Gaurav Dhamija, Vikram Mehto, and Yoginder Seth provide an excellent case study and hands-on exercise via Build an observability solution using managed AWS services and the OpenTelemetry standard.
End-user platform story¶
Vishal Banthia gives in Introducing Platform Infra Team at Mercari an interesting description on how Mercari is set up, platform-wise, and reveals some interesting o11y aspects along with it.
In An Essential Guide to Kubernetes Observability Challenges with Pixie by Piotr you can learn all about how and where to use Pixie to debug Kubernetes.
