OTel seeks feedback

I hear some of you complaining about how complex OTel is or how bad the docs are. Here's your chance to change up things: until Jan 31 next year you can provide feedback via the Developer Experience Survey by the OpenTelemetry End-User SIG.

OTel and Java logs

Logs have been in GA for a year or so now and still we're missing non-trivial hands-on guides. Check out Collecting OpenTelemetry-compliant Java logs from files via the official OTel blog, by Cyrille Le Clerc and Gregor Zeitlinger of Grafana Labs, and learn how to get logs from your Java application ingested into an OTel-compatible backend.

OTel and the value of standards

Good piece by Jeremy Morrell: On OpenTelemetry and the value of Standards. Thanks for sharing these thoughtful insights.

OTel and mobile

Via TheNewStack: David Rifkin of Embrace wrote about Sending Mobile Signals to the OpenTelemetry Collector. In this hands-on article, David shows end-to-end how to make it happen.

OTel and S3

Sending Telemetry to (& rehydrating from) AWS S3 with the OTel Collector by Jon Reeve is an interesting contribution. Not sure I agree with everything in it, but I do appreciate that Jon is showing the AWS S3 exporter in action. Lots of interest around data lakes nowadays and OTel can play an important role here.
